Paints
My
color palette consists primarially of Vallejo Model
Colors though the must have list also has a few Game
Colors.
My
Top Ten Vallejos:
Smoke
Burnt Cadmium Red
Cork
German Luftwaffe Blue
Mat Medium
Transparent Yellow
Brown Violet
Chocolate Brown
Woodgrain
Brown Rose.
I am about to pick up all the transparents and it's
an easy bet that they will all be on the must have
list.
Another ten I wouldn't
want to paint without:
Caucasion Flesh (Reaper)
Fair Maiden (Reaper)
Charred Brown (Vallejo Game)
Snakebite leather (Vallejo Game)
Bone (Old Citadel - Cotes d' Arms)
Ochre Brown (Vallejo Model)
Quadricone Gold (Golden)
Yellow Iron Oxide (Golden)
Dark Blue Grey
Dark Sea Blue
Current Favorite Books:
Making Color Sing. This book is really
aimed at water color artists, but I have found it
full of wonderful information for anyone that wants
to to better understand mixing and using color.
Pantone Guide to Communicating with Color:
Maybe you have to have a background in print design
to really appreciate this book, but it is a wonderful
resource for understanding and combining colors.
Designer's Guide to Color: Simple
color schemes in infinite combinations all designed
to have specific emotional imapct. Another "Designer's
Guide" that can lend insight into how colors
work together to create mood.
(I
have more books that I've found helpful, but they
are all packed away for another six weeks or so! :p
I'll update this again when I get the books all unpacked.)
Tools:
Color Wheel. See the Wheel, Be the Wheel. There are
many up online, though I think it's worth it to spring
the $5 more or less to get one you can spin and play
with. My favorite is Pocket Color Wheel by The Color
Wheel Company. You can buy it online or at places
like Michael's Craft store.
Pocket Guide to Mixing Color: Also from The Color
Wheel Company. From a visual guide to mixing color
to definitions of basic terminology, this guide packs
a lot of punch in a small, easy to absorb package.
(Plus, it's under $5) :)
